I bought this children’s Bible after reading a rave review of it and we have not been disappointed. Brett and I think it’s great and the kids love it too, in fact it’s been loved into two pieces.
The subtitle is ‘Every story whispers his name’, and that is how Sally Lloyd-Jones has written this. At the conclusion of each Old Testament chapter she points forward to Jesus. An example for you, at the end of the story about Abraham almost sacrificing Isaac:
“Many years later, another Son would climb another hill, carrying wood on his back. Like Isaac, he would trust his Father and do what his Father asked. He wouldn’t struggle or run away.
Who was he? God’s Son, his only Son – the Son he loved.
The Lamb of God.”
Once we move into the New Testament Jesus is shown as fulfilling God’s great Rescue plan, sharing God’s love – “His Never Stopping, Never Giving Up, Unbreaking, Always and Forever Love“– God himself come to save us and reunite us to Himself.
Jumping back to the very beginning of the book – before starting with Creation Sally Lloyd-Jones gives a chapter to explaining the Bible, why God gave it to us and what it isn’t, and what it is. Although it’s written in simple language it’s a good explanation.
So we would definitely recommend this to you. Since buying it we’ve bought a few copies as gifts… I’ve given one to my brother and his family, they are not Christians, but I pray that my nephews might pick it up and read it and be moved to God by it. We also bought a copy for our Vietnamese friends’ son for his birthday. This is the family who have been interested in God and asking questions – we’ve given them a Vietnamese/English New Testament but this we feel will help in explaining some of the links between stories.
It is now also available in a deluxe edition with the book narrated by David Suchet possibly better known to you as Hercule Poirot.
